Here in Sooke are no big waves, even on rough or stormy weather they are just one meter high. Way to small for me! My next trip was to a small provincial park nearby Port Renfrew. There is a rough beach with a lot of bonsai trees in. The park is called Botanical Beach. The U.S. peninsula ends near that park in the other side of the straight, so there can be really big waves coming on from the big pacific ocean. It is really nice to hear the thunder of rough incoming waves again, such a force of the nature.
Most trees have been forced by the never ending wind the grow sideways or even stopped them from growing. Those trees, the big cliffs and big waves are the typical characteristics of a west Canadian coast.
After a couple of fries we went to Avatar Grove, some leftover trees with a size up to 70 meters. Even with all the rain it was a nice day, wet plants look mostly even nicer due to more intensive colors.
But ... the trip ended quite bad with a car with died 60 km away from home. No cellphone connection and even in the 100 souls village nearby we couldn't get a land line connection to someone. After a while we could get a connection and managed to get all people and belongings home. Luckily it was not to far away and a small village was nearby. My planed routes will lead me the logging roads far away from any villages. But happily bikes have no electronic stuff on them that can make it unable to drive.
My plans are still growing and working out, I got some more informations by a friend of my aunt and I am still waiting for my visa card to arrive.
Tomorrow we will go on a hike in Sooke Hills, a longer trip to Tofino is up on our list and I have to buy some more stuff (like a bike trailer...). Enough to do, see you soon.
